A stimulating programme and a caring and safe environment is a must for any child attending early childhood education. The James Street Pre-school and Junior School, in the Christchurch seaside suburb of Redcliffs, aims to deliver an exceptionally high standard of care. We consider ourselves a part of your family and community, providing the best education and care for your child.

Our names are Tonia and Murray Salt, and we have four children of our own. We know how important it is that only the highest quality of care is provided for your children and, as directors of the preschool, this is our key focus.

The preschool offers care and education for children aged up to six years. We are committed to maintaining a stimulating programme and to creating an open, caring atmosphere that supports both children and their families.

We respect individual needs and differences and aim to promote high self esteem and healthy relationships between children, families and staff.

We know that teachers are the most important factor in a successful preschool environment. We employ staff of only the highest quality and training. This has been recognised by the Ministry of Education, which has granted us “Quality Provider” status.

The James Street Preschool and Junior School offer a balanced mix of structured learning and free play experiences.

Children are given opportunities to experience a supportive and challenging environment in an age-appropriate manner.

Our philosophy acknowledges that every child is unique and requires total acceptance in order to develop their full potential. We acknowledge our partnership with families in providing a successful programme that promotes high self-esteem, empowerment to learn and a respect for boundaries that operate in an effective group environment.

The preschool operates in three distinct areas - the Nursery, the Junior School and the Preschool.

Support for children moving from the Nursery to the Junior School, and Junior School to the Preschool, will be provided by an allocated staff member when the time comes.

The Nursery, Junior School and Preschool programmes are based on the principles of Te Whariki - the Early Childhood Curriculum.

This reflects the holistic way children learn and grow, focusing on the individual child and their relationships to the world around them.

We hope you enjoy exploring our website. You’ll find a wealth of information about what goes on at the Preschool, from the menus to the kinds of fun activities we provide for the children.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
