Junior school

(approx. 18 months - 2 ½ years)

  • Situated next to the pre-school, the Junior School offers modern facilities.

  • A fun and stimulating programme is offered for children based on their interests, needs and strengths.

  • Many and varied activities, experiences and challenges are made available to this group.

  • Children are able to explore, investigate and learn at their own pace in a safe and secure environment.

  • Children are encouraged to learn alongside others.

  • Children's sleeping and toileting patterns are recorded daily for the information of parents.

 

Daily programme

The programme for each age group is displayed in the children's dining area at the Preschool and the play areas in the Nursery and Junior School. The programme is based on the Early Childhood Curriculum - Te Whariki and reflects the holistic way children learn and the way in which children form relationships with those around them and with their environment.

7.30 Junior School opens; choice of quiet indoor experiences
8.30 Children's choice of inside/outside experiences.
9.15 Stories and quiet games will be offered as a transition into a group morning tea
9.30 Morning tea.
9.50 Children will have the opportunity to choose from a range of inside/outside experiences, but at some stage physical activity, focus and sensory experiences will be included
11.15 Music & movement is used as a transition into a group lunch.
11.30 Lunch
12.00 Children will be offered a range of inside/outside experiences;
Opportunity for sleep.
1.00 Children will have the opportunity to choose from a range of inside/outside experiences, but at some stage baking and a quiet activity will be offered
2.30 Stories and quiet games will be offered as a transition into a group afternoon tea
2.45 Afternoon tea.

Music/Drama - transition into a range of inside/outside experiences, but at some stage science will be included

5.00 Late Snack;
Children will be offered a range of quiet experiences.
5.30 Preschool Closes.
Perceptual Motor Programme (PMP) will be included on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
